Deriv AI Hackathon by JomHack

I recently participated in the Deriv AI Hackathon. Participants had the option to join with a full team or compete individually. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to form a complete team beforehand, so my friend Mariia and I joined together and were assigned three additional members randomly from the roster (five members were required in total). One team member withdrew before the first stage even began.

The hackathon consisted of two stages:

  1. 7–8 February – Virtual Hackathon
  2. 14–15 February – Physical Hackathon (Finals)

There were around 15 different tracks to choose from. Our team selected the HR Assistant AI track, aiming to develop a solution that would help automate the HR process — from receiving applications to hiring new employees and help them completing their training.

We successfully qualified for the second stage, which was a good achievement. However, we did not make it into the Top 10 teams to present on stage during the grand finals.

The project was mostly vibe-coded, although I personally put a lot of thought and design-thinking into backend logic (AI engine and RAG framework).

Overall, it was a valuable experience. Although the results did not fully match the level of effort me and my friend invested, the hackathon provided meaningful learning opportunities and some practical experience in working under pressure, critical-thinking, and rapid development under time constraints.
